Eichler courtyard model providing a private lounge space that doubles as an entry to the home. Rental property so limited ability to modify but willing landlord facilitated some improvements. Existing highlights included a California Buckeye, Magnolia, wall of pink Oleander, Bird of Paradise, and an incredible Gardenia.
Foundation beds placed at the floor-to-ceiling windows allowed for new plantings to be enjoyed inside and out. A sad circle of dead grass was replaced with a fire pit. The dream scenario would have been to replace the back yard grass/weeds with garden planter boxes but little feet and paws appreciated the space to run and play. Succulents and cactus in containers along the concrete patio and in foundation beds around the house made an impressive impact. Shadier spots did well with ferns while Kalanchoe and Echeveria soaked up the sun.
This is the home that I really leaned into indoor plant styling. Although with those windows, you could argue that “indoor” is debatable.
